WHAT IS PRECISION METAL PUNCHING?

Precision metal punching – not to be confused with metal stamping – is the process of creating custom shapes of varying sizes within a sheet of metal. In many instances, this process can be used in the place of laser cutting.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

To achieve the desired results, a sheet of metal is placed between a punch and die. Once the punch has passed through the sheet of metal towards the die, the punched metal scraps are either discarded or collected for recycling. This process is repeated until the desired outcome has been reached.

Certain aspects – such as the size and shape of the die and/or punch, the amount of force applied to the sheet of metal, as well as metal type and thickness – can all change the outcome of the punch.
